“ Matsui offers an authentic Japanese dining experience. They offer tasty combos and cute kids meals too. I had never been a huge fan of soba until I tried their soba. Matsui has turned me in to a fan of soba! Seating is pretty limited so there may be a wait during popular times. Service is efficient and fast though so I have never had to wait too long. There's plenty of free parking too. Definitely worth a visit! ”
“ Matsui lives in a plaza that houses some heavy hitters, however, it's a gem among many. The menu is pretty straightforward. Matsui offers up quintessential Japanese fare and it does it well. My favorite is the Ten Zaru ($14.95) with cold soba noodles. It comes with both shrimp and vegetable tempura. The soba was quite good. The noodles were al dente with just the right amount of bounce. All the accoutrements - dipping sauces, oroshi, scallions etc. - were the perfect complements to enhance the sauces. I appreciated the simplicity of the meal and I think that's where Matsui excels. If you like variety, I recommend ordering a combination special. For around $15, you can get both a noodle + rice entree. I love the curry don ($14.95) with a side of cold soba noodles. You get carbs in every imaginable form. I can't think of a better combo. If you're a little indecisive, the menu here is pretty expansive. There are so many combos at ridiculously reasonable prices. Looking for good food with good value? Matsui is your girl. ”
“ Great food and service! It was our first time eating here on a recommendation from a Japanese friend. They have sushi, udon, soba, Don (bowls), and tempura. All which can be combos or added. The tempura is made fresh and exceptionally made with the right amount of batter. What I like best is the seasoning of the food. It is well balanced and not too salty or the overly use of msg. It was lunch time when we came in on a Friday and wasn't too bad. Anyway, I/we will be regulars now. Enjoy! ”
“ Atmosphere - Limited seating, fills up quickly so get there early. Lots of parking. Taste - Manager's special with nigiri sushi, udon or soba, mixed tempura tasted authentic and flavorful. Matsui bowl with Shrimp Tempura, rice and Miso is perfect if you're craving tempura. Good portions. Customer service - Attentive, friendly. Food came out quickly. Price - Average ”
“ This is where you come when you know you're craving Japanese food but don't exactly know what you want. It was a cold night so I went with the nabeyaki udon, per the waiter's recommendation, and it was such a comforting dish. However, I would also recommend getting the Manager's Special which was only $18 for tempura, soba or udon, sushi, and a side salad. It's a good bang for your buck and pretty rare in this economy nowadays. Matsui has nearly everything you can imagine of Japanese cuisine from soba to unagi to sushi to tempura to... I'm gonna stop here because you get my point. Just get what you're craving since the prices are pretty worth it. Sushi is one that they don't specialize in but if you're coming here, it's for the classic comfort dishes. The workers were nice and the food came out relatively quickly. I also like that they gave out tea as a drink option instead of water. ”
“ Tempura was crispy without too much heaviness from the batter, and the udon is quite standard in terms of broth and noodles. I've had better at other places, but it was still quite delicious. The manager's special had a good array of items but sushi wasn't that good. The price was absolutely unbeatable, though! It's located in a plaza with a decent parking selection, but the plaza is quite busy so you might have to spend a bit of time spinning around before you find a spot. ”
“ Haiku: Matsui Sushi, tempura Hot spot for Japanese food Great value and taste. --- You know this place is solid, when there are all generations of Japanese patrons dining in. I always get the Manager's Special--a meal that includes the chef's sushi selection, shrimp and vegetable tempura, house salad, and noodles (choice from hot/cold soba or udon). You can find your traditional Japanese dishes here. The sushi is decent for the price and this spot is popular for its tempura. It's freshly fried and is generous in portions. Service is attentive and friendly. The ambiance is a bit dated, but cozy and comforting. ”
“ Delicious and good prices! We went for lunch and it was packed - waited 20 mins, but service was great and quick! The lunch special had a little bit of everything : nigiri, handroll, tempura and choice of udon or soba. It was SO filling and satisfying. I loved the assortment of nigiri pieces and the tempura was perfectly fried. The udon was simple but satisfying. Curry katsu do is SO big - loaded with rice, curry sauce and fried pork cutlet. ”
“ Have gone with family that live in the area many times the last few years and recently stopped by to have lunch and realized never reviewed Matsui... 5 stars!!!!! Every single restaurant seems to have raised their prices over the last couple of years, but Matsui remains a pretty good value plus it offers delicious Japanese comfort food. Be sure to consider the Manager's Special, which comes with 8 pieces of sushi, tempura, side salad, as well as your choice of hot/cold udon or soba, for less than $18. The tempura is the standout item in the special. Just the way I like my tempura, not too bready and it has very good flavor. When not ordering the special, I love unagi. Perfectly tender drizzled with a delicious sauce on top of white rice, and I'm comforted. You can't also go wrong with the unagi at Matsui. My family in the area keep coming back to Matsui since it's not all about the food. The staff is always pretty friendly and attentive! Food came after a very short wait, and I never ever have to flag for a drink refill! There's a dedicated parking lot so parking should never been an issue. ”
